Subject: A Taxonomy for Harvesting Exhaust Gas Energy for Hybrid Aircraft Powertrains

John Olsen received his PhD degree from the University of Newcastle in 2001. His PhD was entitled, “Control of turbulence in jets”. He has been an academic at the University of New South Wales since 2002 and has lectured in aircraft propulsion, aircraft flight performance, aircraft design, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and internal combustion engines. He has a wide range of research interests. These include the hybridisation of aircraft powertrains, industrial energy harvesting, simulation as well as the application of both the first and second laws of thermodynamics to engines, power stations and co/tri generation plants. He is involved in space research and has previously been interested biodiesel production and alternative fuels.
